I want to replace the faucet in my 440 aft head and find that the area under the sink where you would usually get at the faucet is all closed with cabinetry. There seems no obvious way to remove the back panel of the under sink area. Does anyone know how to get at the back of these cabinets?.

Gosh Bruce, sorry no one has responded yet. I have no experience with the 440, and sure hope that Carver's methods changed in the years since they built my 2896. Back in 1980, portions of the interior were pre-assembled on jigs and lowered into the hull, but often they were designed without thought for the need to ever take anything apart later. So for example my forward bilge pump let go and I almost killed myself trying to take enough stuff apart in the galley to reach the damn through hull. And portions of the underside of the deck are not readily reachable either, so as to replace a rail stanchion or other broken part. The owners manual states that changing of deck hardware in the field is not recommended, and from experience I can see why...

So, you might find yourself doing some surgery, my friend!!!

Sound like you might be cutting and adding an access hatch in the back of the cabinet.
