I have a 1998 Carver 350 Mariner and cannot find the mid bilge pump. The manual says it is located under the stairs in the salon that leads to the bridge but there is no hatch there. I am thinking you have to pull the fridge to get to it. I can hear it in that area but i cannot see it from any hatches. Does anyone know how to get to it?

The only pump i know of under the fridge is the shower sump - could that be what you hear? A little forward from that is the front bilge pump but that is more centered in the hull - right near the head door.
The middle bilge pump is located just ahead of the engine compartment bulkead and can be reached through a hatch located midship at the foot of the stairs going from the salon to the aft cockpit.
(At least this is the way it is on my '97 350 Mariner)

Mine is a little different, I can easily see the shower sump which is right in front of the fridge. I also can easily see the forward bilge, which is located a little further forward than yours. That's the problem, I don't have a hatch at the foot of the stairs. It was driving me crazy but I guess I can call Carver. I just got back from a great trip to Lake Powell and will not be back to the boat for another month.

I think that I may be able to help here. I have a 2000 which I just re-carpeted. There is a hatch right in front of the stairs. In my boat though carpet was glued/stapled right over it. There has been no access to it ever. I thought this an odd error in my boat but maybe it is not uncommon.

Thank you all. I thought that maybe the previous owner re-carpeted and covered the hatch and I almost even pulled up the glued carpet. I bet my hatch is covered too then.

Perfect RX,

Would you be able to snap a picture next time you're at your boat? I have one carpeted access without a little handle to pull it up about 1/3rd of the way into the salon. Under here I only saw an access to my freshwater tank. Is this the opening you are talking about or do I have a covered one as well?

I would be happy to only since I was in there I replaced the pump & switch & covered it back up. I know where it is if I need it. It is not the one you speak of. It is actuall right at the bottom of the stairs centered on the stairs & is abour 10 or 12 inches wide. I figured all was fine for 10 years & I have carpet left so if I need to get into it just a couple of slits & I am there. Sorry too late for pics

On my '99 350 Mariner - at the base of the stairs into the salon the carpet has a few snaps here (and no where else). I lift the carpet up at the corners of the stairs to unsnap it and there is a little wooden hatch right there (at the base of the stairs). Lift the hatch and there is the mid bilge pump.

I had a call into Carver and Kelly left me a message saying that around 1998 they were covering the access hatch to the pump probably for aesthetic reasons. I guess in '99 they added snaps instead of stapling and gluing it. Carver must of thought that there were all ready too many hatches in the salon carpet. Kelly was prompt, helpful and knowledgeable and I appreciated the great customer support given to a second owner. I also appreciate this board and the help you all provided especially Perfect Rx who figured it out, even though it took 10 years.

Was down last night and found it. Thanks for your help guys.
