55# 1987 Carver 3227 Right now in Charelston S.C. moving to Carrabelle Fl. next month

Carrabelle is supposed to be an up-and-coming part of FL. Anything you can relate about it???

First of all I guess I am number 64, next time I should look to see there were two pgaes not 1.

Carrabelle is a great little town with a very nice Marina called the Moorings. I first found it looking at a 32 Carver Aft about six years ago. I ended up liking the Marina better than the boat. Just bought the 3227 and new that is where I would like to put it. Hope to have it there some time next month. already have slip reserved. waiting on transport.

As posted, I'm now a happy owner of this '82 Carver 3007 Aft Cabin.

Now for some questions.

1. Is there a specific Carver owner forum out there?

2. What gph and mpg at cruise can I expect from these 220 hp crusaders? Even more pertinent, if helm speed is 7 mph, what would be the gph and mpg at this speed. I'm thinking of using this boat like a trawler with "get up and go" if needed.

3. Anybody have experience using a honda genny with this boat. Namely, have you been able to safely (and quietly )place it on the swim platform or in the flybridge?

Thanks in advance!

LOL, there's Bruce for ya, direct and to the point...

Greg, BE is a damn good place to find the answers you seek. Even if we don't have them, we'll help you find them. For example, here's spec sheet for your boat from 1982/1981, the 1981 sheet includes performance statistics w/twin Crusader 220s:

Hope this helps!!!

PS - its off the Carver Yachts Web Site - go under service, and then Non Current Brochures or Non Current Model Specifications...

Greg,
There have been many topics here discussing Honda generators on swim platforms. Many calim they can do it safely.
Without going into too much detail of why, I'll just say I don't support that theory for your application. Your boat was designed for an installed marine generator in the bilge and that is where one should be. The option list a 6.6KW unit, however you may want to consider a slighly smaller unit, if cost in a strong consideration.

#55 here if you don't mind us "little" guys coming in. We have a 26 foot Monterey that we just got from a boat hauler, and it's basically just a hull that we're going to rebuild. It's a great little boat and are new to the Carver brand. We have a small runabout and a 23' Century that we've renovated, and now we're on our third rebuild. Since this is our first Carver, I thought it would be great to talk with other Carver owners and share tips and stories with all of you. Good to be here.

Oops, I didn't notice there was a second page either. Guess I've been breathing too much dust from the gel coat sanding....so I'm not really #55, but I'm in there somewhere. I'm going to need a lot of parts to get this beauty back to her original splendor, so I welcome any advice, parts and moral support during this renovation. Thanks.

Thanks Pete.

BE will be my permanent moorage for yacht yak. I intend to join soon.

Louise, it sounds like you really are a glutton for punishment - THREE boat rebuilds??????

We rebuilt our original 28' Mariner from 1975, and got 12 years out of it before I sold it a couple of years back. I also rebuilt a 1975 Glastron V-215 which I still have. My wife said "no way" to any more big projects, which is why we nixed a 33 Voyager which I really wanted, but we picked up a 1980 28 Mariner last year in an estate sale which has worked out very well. Oh I still have some work to do, but no major overhauling if I want to stay married :) ...

Cost is a consideration, which is why I want to use my $900 Honda genny. Bob Austin and I had some conversation about his on his TomCat. He uses a milk crate to extend the height above his swim platform. As a physician, he's treated CO poisoning, so he's careful. So am I. We have CO detectors in the flybridge and cabin.

If you note the height of my Gunwale(?) above the swim platform, this serves as a nice barrier between the nasty air/noise and us with in a closed cabin. If it's a warm day, different story. I'll put it on the dock or float it out on the dingy.

Finally, the gen is a 3rd option for us. We have red dot heat, then a Mr. Buddy or Pro Cat, then the gen. For microwave or tv, the 1k inverter should suffice. If not, then I have the gen for bursts as needed.
