Carver quality! Honestly!

I love my Carver. You couldn't get me to sell it if you tried. It's built like somebody said above like a brick ****house. I love it and will say that this a probably my last boat.

AJ, You think anymore about making that walk thru? I close on a new house tomorrow so I have been too busy to start looking at the project hard. Once I get settled I'm going to look into for sure.
 
You do realize, apparently, that your question is like asking us if we think our baby is cute, right?

I sold my Carver last summer, so maybe I'm a little more detached and objective than others on this forum. So I won't use all caps or exclamation points, but,

ah, heck, I can't help it.

I LOVED MY CARVER!!!

We are currently scoping out which current model we will buy used in a few years when we retire.

IMO Cummins are no more susceptible to overloading than any other recreational specked engine, and less than some. Overloading any engine is bad.
With Tony Athens we just have an Cummins expert telling us not to do that with Cummins. There isnt anyone to say the same about Volvos.

I personally dont like Volvo because of their well deserved reputation for very high part prices.
 
I agree.I wasn,t saying that cummins is more pron to overloading issues over other makes. I do know the B series which i have is very sensitive to overload failure. I have heard that Volvo,s are pricey to fix. Best thing is try to be easy on any engine if you can.The two boats i am looking at come with Volvos only.Luckily the D9 and D12 engines seem to have a good reputation. Very few posts on the boatdiesel site on them so i,m guessing few problems.
 
Toronto, for what it's worth, I think the sky lounge option greatly lowers the value of the boat. Even it is a pilot house you still have adequate seating for eating. That's why I like the 53 and the 57.

I have the Volvo D12's. These are bullet proof. 100% reliable. After an entire Winter (Winterized) they restart as if they were already warmed up a minute ago. In a word Fantastic! No problems at all. In this case you get what you paid for. It was a $100,000 upgrade.
 
Art: unless the fuel drains away, or it is very cold diesels should always start that way.
 
Bruce, even in cold weather they start that way. I recall test driving the boat in December & it was about 25 degrees that day. I made sure to tell the dealer I wanted it dead cold prior to me being there & the gauges showed it was dead cold. I had also tried to start a Mann Diesel in the cold. Hell no. That was not an easy starting engine at all.

Is the 450 a "baby" version of your 570? If so, what an awesome floorplan! The lower helm "pilot house" reminds me of something you would see on a LARGE m/y

Yes. In fact I had a 2000 450 Voyager that I traded in on my current 2001 570 Voyager. I liked the 450 too but the Galleyway was too tight as you went by to get to the cabins. The Gally was small too. That plus the boat with Cummins 450's was slow at about 20 knots top speed?
 
Not sure about the performance on the 450, my friend has his for sale here in Knoxville. Small galley / galleyway? You need to visit me aboard the 27 Santego :)
 
Thanks to every one for there comments. It seems most are very happy with there Carver boats be it small or large. My next boat will be an other Carver. Just have to decide witch one. Thanks again to all.
 
Hello everyone...still here! Just not as active...and some of you know why. Now, as most know, I have worked for the same Carver dealer for 28 almost 29 years, and the ONLY model I have ever seen flex in any way is the 3297 Mariner and 3257 Montego. These were made with flat hull, and if the yard crew places the keel block in the wrong place, you'll get flex. Other brands come with specific "blocking maps" and if you don't follow them, you'll puncture the hull...I won't say what brand, but, it's not Carver or Cruisers ;-)

For what it's worth, I've had my Carver for a year and a half and am still absolutely thrilled with it. My wife and two kids (2 and 4 years old) are on it 3 days a week spring through fall and it's doing just fine.

I have a friend who has been around boating all his life and he gave me plenty of advice on purchasing a boat, and with this knowledge I got exactly what I was looking for.

I couldn't be happier. Of course, I already have my next three boats picked out! :)
 
Hey Kenny, good to see you - I've been a little scarce of late myself. Well these past 2 weeks I've had an excuse - I am out enjoying my Carver!!! Havent gone too far - gas is too damn expensive, but even hanging around at or near our wonderful marina we have plenty to do. We should have good weather the rest of the week so we will be out there on the water enjoying the late summer days here in NY!!!
