I'm getting ready to purchase a 1997 or newer 38' Carver Santego 380. I'd like to hear any and all comments about them. Best engines, etc. Pros and cons. What to watch out for. Do's and don'ts.

Ron,

We have a 1994 Santego 380 which we have used for four seasons. We love the boat, plenty of room, great layout, large bridge with walk-out to bow, etc. Great for entertaining.

We have Crusader 454 with close to 900 hours. They have some corrosion from previous owner (Florida boat), but run great. I am currently having one v-drive serviced for an oil leak, no other major work has been required in the four seasons. We have been thru fuel pumps, oil pressure sensors, battery charger, starter rebuild, etc but no BIG issues (knock wood). I think what we have experienced in terms of maintenance is pretty normal for a now 15 year old boat.

Let me know if you have specific questions and good luck.

Stan

These are great boats! I have a 1990 and just love it. Have you read the earlier post on the 1989 34 Santego? Same boat just different model number and little different int. layout. This model started as a 34, then 638, then 380 and so popular they made it for about 13 years.
