Cedar BEach New rules ?

Rob...it's not you they are trying to keep out, it is people like you who bring their little out of town dogs in to pee and poop in our town marina.

Capt.....they are a dog friendly marina with a designated dog walk area. We took our dog there every time we visited.

The many times I've been there.....I've seen stickered boats with dogs off leash and runnin free. I don't think it just out of town boaters that don't follow the rules.

Maybe the TOB should invest in .....www.pooprints.com

If you’re tired of dog owners in your community not cleaning up the waste their dogs leave behind, PooPrints can help. Eliminate dog waste on the grounds of your apartment, condo, or HOA community forever with PooPrints dog poop DNA matching service for property management! It’s the only permanent, “set it and forget it” solution for dog waste management. Watch this short video, then click a paw print below to get started.

Maybe they can hire Poop Police to issue poop tickets.....it could be a whole new revenue stream for the town.

kiddin........................

Two things I believe
Towns don't care about revenue, they are not a business, need more money, just raise taxes!
Keeping the park for just residents, purely a political move.

Originally Cedar was built with Town and State funds. Once you take State funds you have to offer it to non-residents. When Sandy hit, the Town got a grant to rebuild without state funds. Now no more non-residents.

Good Life
Just dumb not to exercise all the money potential. If I lived in Babylon I would be pissed. If I was a non boater in Babylon would be really pissed. To bad when you get your tax bill they don't include a spread sheet, bet most in that town would be flawed by their loss of revenue !!!

By the way, not singling out Babylon, all the towns her in LI are in the same boat!

Realizing I don't live on the island, I don't understand why anyone woul leave their marina for the day just to tie up in another. Surely there must be plenty of coves, etc. to anchor out for the day for free. What am I missing?

There's 2 things you're missing :) One is that there really aren't a lot of protected coves to anchor in around the Great South bay. Especially with deep enough water for the boats most of us have. Personally I like to just anchor up in some spots across the bay and hang out for the day and go for a swim, but they aren't well protected, you could not raft up there, and depending on the wind not always a comfortable spot to spend the night. The couple of deep coves we do have can get pretty crowded.

The other thing is with the Great South Bay and the barrier beaches on the south side, you're leaving a marina in a fairly busy residential area, and then going only a couple miles to a marina on the bay side of a barrier beach where you can walk to the ocean in a couple minutes, and you're away from houses and the busy 'mainland'. Personally I'm not a fan of Cedar beach because the marina is right next to the parking lot for the people driving to the beach and prefer to head a few miles east to the Fire Island spots where there are no cars and no roads. Again though, you may be going to a marina but it's a totally different experience and you really feel like you are away.

Actually it's funny thinking about it because I'm a Babylon town resident, live directly across the bay from Cedar, and never in my life have gone there by boat!

Thinking about going to Zachs Bay for the Memorial Weekend. Assuming they have deep water there? I hear it gets crowded. Am I crazy or is this doable?

They play the same game with Cedar Beach campground. Talk about Suffolk Co losing revenue.....they shut down Heckscher State Park campground YEARS ago and never re-opened it.....but still maintain the grounds. Politics at its finest.

I have been disappointed with the Suffolk County Prosecutors office ever since I handed them the Bob and Susan Scaretta case from Revere Armored and they lost the evidence? These people stole millions and they got what? The last time I talked to the detectives was at NATEA in Washinton DC in the early 1990's!

With your boat....your cray!
Low water.
Every drunk idiot in the world will be there.
Most will be looking up at the planes and not paying attention to their anchor breaking free.

Not saying I haven't done it, I have and its alot of fun, but it can get crazy.

With your boat, if Ocean is calm, float out offshore!

I've done it a couple of times. You will want to get there early, maybe the evening before the air show (which is awesome especially with the Blue Angels coming back). Getting out after the show is a bit of an ordeal. You will probably have to wait a while for the Bay to clear out some. It's like getting out of a stadium parking lot after a football game.

If you go and get a good spot, let me know, I will come raft up!

I don't get back to USA until 5/24 and will be looking to go boating 5/25!

Thanks.Planning on anchoring out behind Statue of Liberty on Friday night and heading over first thing in the morning and spending the night. This way I won't have to deal with the traffic leaving. Hopefully I should be there before 10:00 am. (Hoping that is early enough). I will post if it all works out so you can pop in.

So you will be there Sunday Morning?
Might come over if decent weather.
Will see.

So if you are coming in Jones Inlet, you will have to deal with the bridges.
Heading into Zach's use west entrance and stay close to poles that mark it.
Try to stay straight inor to right of channel heading in.
By Saturday morning place will be filling up quick!
Good luck!

Thanks. Following a friend who has been there several times so way less stressful. Not sure on Sunday yet. Going to play it by ear. Hope to see you all.
