Guys, there’s been a lot of confusion on other boating websites regarding documentation renewal. For the past year or so, you could renew for 1 to 5 years. Then they came out and said starting Jan 1, renewal for recreational boats will be 5 years only. Looking at their website, they even contradicted themselves on this point, so I sent an email. The response…last minute change on 12/27…you can officially renew for 1 to 5 years. The fee schedule on the website is wrong but will be corrected soon.

BTW, only renew on the real CG-NVDC website for $26/year. If the website says $75, you are on the wrong website.

No, $26/year. They still haven’t corrected the fee schedule yet.

I emailed the people who handle the initial document application asking where the document number had to be on the boat. And the reply came from someone in the USCG (not an employee) saying it had to be in the cockpit area clearly visible. Which is absolutely wrong.

did you email the real NVDC office at .mil or one of the scammer companies? When I emailed the doc office earlier in the week, my email came back as undeliverable. Seems you can only email them with a PDF document attached to the email. So that’s what I did…e-mail went through and I got a fairly quick response.

The hull number needs to be visible in the top right corner of the transom

The documentation number needs to be permanently applied to structural part of the boat, like hull, bulkhead, stringer etc. not a hatch or door. Screwed on number plates don’t qualify. They d have to epoxied

I usually get stick on letters and cover them with a layer of fiberglass.
