Chalk up one more on my bucket list- ICW Trip

Congrats on the trip. I'm sure it was superb.

Where was the Alligator River grounding, by the way? Just north of the highway bridge heading into the Albemarle Sound? (that's the notorious spot).

Now THAT's the right attitude! During the daylight hours, you will probably be engaged in the journey and the surroundings anyway. And if anchored out away from the city, the sky on a clear night is amazing.

I found Cruisersnet to be much easier to use than Active Captain for ICW updates. Never relied on the magenta line other than as a guide the first trip or two as to where to turn into a new channel.

Bill A. That's exactly where it was. Going around a point north of the bridge, as you are heading north, you have to give that area a lot of room off your port side.

And Albermarle sound was no picnic either. The day after the rain, NOAA lied to us. We had winds out of the NNW and we were getting those rollers broadside. Had to navigate from the main cabin instead of the fly bridge to lower center of gravity. Made it without any hitches.

That sounds a whole lot like my transit of the Albemarle, 2+' beam sea from the NW. I was rocking and rolling a lot. I didn't mind it (had a big wheel to hang onto), but (after hearing lamps and all kinds of other stuff crashing around in the salon) Admiral came up from the salon and sternly said, "A SWIMMER would swim INTO the waves...." Well, yes, ma'am. (VBG!).

I'm glad you had an otherwise great trip. Did you go Dismal Swamp or Coinjock, by the way?

We did the Coinjock route. Met a few sailboaters who were heading north and going the Dismal Swamp route, but we did the other. Think the scenery was probably a little better this route.
