Does anyone know if the chanel markers are in the right place for SPBM yet ?

Not unless the were moved during this week, did someone tell you that they would be? It seems as though no one cares. I was there yesterday but didn't go out so I didn't notice. It would be nice if this was corrected.

Looking at them as I type this. Only 3 markers left as "someone" decided to take one for a tour of the river. (Sorry Jim but I had to say it!)

The marker issue is another example of how the management at SPBM doesn't give a flying hoot about THEIR customers. The markers are the property of SBPM, have always been placed by SPBM, and wintered by SPBM. When the current owner bought SPBM he tried to harm other marinas in the area and wanted to eliminate the channel and use the north channel for the marina. Customers complained and that idea went away but now he wants the other marina to place the markers since they benefit from the channel as well. He refuses to place the markers properly choosing to simply put them all in a straight line, red, green, green, red. I suppose the other marina could place them properly but then they could be charged with tempering with SPBM property. Real petty BS.

I'm sure many people remember last years placing of the markers. Way off channel and a good number of people grounded or hit things increasing the service business at the marina.

Well Well Well, will wonders never cease. The SBPM workboat is out placing markers.

Lets see if they actually put them in the right place.

Check them now all but one are backwards. Last I checked it was Red right return. We have a marked channel just not marked correctly. I just left the marina I glad something has been done. Maybe we should just paint them.

This afternoon I was out on bay test and the marker ARE NOT CORRECT. All of them

Dave, what the heck is Red right return?

Sorry Red right return I had to reread what I typed I can't believe I wrote that.
Oddly there two green and one Red marker on the Right side as you enter the channel from the River and Three Red on the Left. I don't get that it like they were randomly placed.

I went out the channel and aside from the markers being the wrong color they ARE in the wrong place. You have to cut thru the last 2 red (should be green) markers to stay in the channel.

No excuse for this incompetence!

Can someone explain the rules to Pedro please. All I heard was shouting in Spanish and they still f'd things up.

The co-ordinates for the outer end of the channel are N 41 degrees 14. 007' W 073 degrees 58. 117' The outer buoy is 2 tenth of a mile from the end of the channel and deepening water. The outer red buoy on the south side as Rommer said is a mid channel buoy. It should be white and red. I just go to the co-ordinates and head straight in and head to them on the way out. I don't want to get involved in any squabbles between the two marinas, I just want to get in and out safely.

Ken

They don't use a GPS to place the buoys. Manuel stands on the dock where Cury's boat used to be and shots out in Spanish, to the right or to the left. True story, saw it with my own eyes and ears. Reminded me of a keystone cops episode.

John,
You are right that's the way is done. But I don't think they go to believe you. The slow speed buoys suppose to be five of them 250' from the wall covering from the end of SPBM to the end of Belle Harbor. They belong to the town. gene use to do all of them. Did you where they are now.

Besides Tony, no one I've seen going out/in the channel lately knows what a no wake buoy is for anyway.

John
I gave the co-ordinates so others can use them and stay in the channel. Last year they eventually got the buoys right. We will see how long it takes this year.

Yes they are Leigh. Manuel has been with Wayne for MANY years.

if you were watching them from your boat why didn't you out in the dingy and give them a hand?

Not my job plus I have a leak in the dingy and it's in the shop.

I know it's not your job but the markers being in the correct place bennefits ALL of us, regardles of which marina we are in.
