Changing prop pitch

Paul, I had 22's on a '05 Rinker 250 (about the same sized boat as yours) with the same motor and I could get 5000 with a light load. I'd try Estimator's 22 and see what it does. I knew a guy with a '06 Rinker 250 that had 20's, his hole shot was great but he had to be careful on top. He switched to 22's the second year.
Good luck

Paul,

Cruise should be between 75 and 80 percent of WOT.

5000 RPM WOT * 75% = 3750

5000 RPM WOT * 80% = 4000

I am just picking a number in the range. The props on Saint Max are AFU. I cruise at 3800, but she doesn't start to really hit her stride until 4000 RPM. All that will hopefully change in the next month.

David,
Along time ago, George posted that diesels run in the 75-80% range. Gas motors are 60-70%. Which would put my cruise rpm around 3000-3500.

I have a question that seems to me along the lines of this topic. I have twin volvo 5.0 w/270 HP with the DP set up. My WOT is 4700 RPM. I cruise at 3000 RPM which gives me 27 kts. Am I cruising at too low an RPM? The boat seems to be barely working at that level which makes me think I am at the most efficient point, however what I have read here makes me think I should increase the cruise RPM. I burn around 8 GPH on each engine. WOT is 40 kts on the GPS. Any thoughts are appreciated.

Keith, I wouldn't change anything. That is good speed and good economy.

Thanks Niles. Just the advice I was hoping to get!

Water: I agree with Niles as long as you are reaching correct WOT range.
