Going the the Channel Club sans children on Friday for the weekend.

Any advice on good restaurants, bars, close to the marina would be appreciated.

Is the Sea Bright bridge on demand on Fridays?

Sally Tees of course rb2@gr5t the Channel Club,about 1 mile south,Docksiders rb2@gr5t(my marina) Navesink Marina...great bar,decent food,I believe after the gas dock closes they may allow you to tie up..call first.A liitle farther south(cab ride) is pier viilage,great place to walk around also has a few rest/bars..Turning Point for breakfast especially.$$$there is also a little Italian rest right down the street(Michaelangelos)good food...hope this helps a little.
 
The Sea Bright Bridge opens every half hour on the half hour Fridays-Sundays, on demand Mon-Thurs.
 
There is a great restaurant/bar between the Channel Club and the Atlantis Yacht club.

You can always catch some crabs that are on the poles and cook em up for dinner!

Thanks for the info.
I assume no wake the entire length of the Shrew, so how long should it take me to get from the Sandy Hook Bridge to Sea Bright bridge at 5/6 knots. I could try and guess but local knowledge is alwayw better than guessing. Do they bust balls about the speed on the Shrew?

There are no wake zones the entire length of the Shrewsbury. It should take you about 45 minutes from the Sandy Hook Bridge to the Channel Club. Do they bust balls? Sometimes, not as often as they should. You have to run right past the State Police Dock (at the Cove Marina) so you sure don't want to speed there.

I think Hogan is talking about Sally T's. Great little place. NY Deli style food.

It's tough for me to run at slow speeds. My boat runs at 8 knots at idle, both motors. I will have to run on one deal with shifting in and out and hope for the best!!!

We are considering a trip there on labor day. Just looked at the website and I see "Follow the well-marked channel through two bridges to Sea Bright. The bridges have restricted hours on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays from Memorial Day through Labor Day."

My charts indicate the first bridge has 35' vert clearance but the second is only 20'. That's pretty close for me and I'm sure not high enough for Jonathan. So what are the "restricted hours"?
 
Restricted hours are I believe Friday, Saturday & Sunday 7AM - 7PM when they open every half hour.
 
I can make 20' but hate like hell when I have to do it. I can lower my outriggers and VHF antennas to about 18.

Did this a few time on the ICW and on the New River in Florida, you swear you won't make it... but usually have plenty of room.

So Ken, what happens after 07:00 pm at the Sea Bright bridge, no one over 20' goes North?

By the way 20' is at low tide. At high you are closer to 16 and that's right down the middle. Do yourself a favor and open it.
 
Not trying to doubt you Ken as you are from the area but the electronic chart I have indicates 20' and I can't find the qualifing text to back me up but I'm under the impression that vert bridge clearances are given based on MHW not MLW.

Found this in a CG training document.

"2) BRIDGE CLEARANCES

Clearances are shown on navigational charts published by the National Ocean Service (NOS). Bridge vertical clearances are referenced to Mean High Water (MHW) and are listed in the measurement unit for the chart, either feet or meters. Some charts also show vertical clearances over Mean Lower Low Water. Bridge horizontal clearances depict the distance between the faces of bridge piers (or fender systems, if installed), measured normal to the channel. Contact the Bridge Section for bridge clearances on waterways without navigational charts (e.g. the Colorado River). Regularly operated drawbridges and some fixed bridges have vertical clearance gauges installed. Mariners may see the actual clearance available
without reference to tide tables. Mariners should know the vertical clearance requirement of their vessel and avoid requesting drawbridge openings if they can safely transit the closed bridge. Vessel appurtenances, such as radio antennas and bimini tops, which are not essential for navigation, should be lowered to avoid unneeded drawbridge openings."

When I get to my boat I'll have to check the actual chart and see what they are using.
 
Taken from an EPA document....

"The Monmouth County highway bridge, at mile 4.0, across the
Shrewsbury River has a vertical clearance of 15 feet at mean high water
and 17 feet at mean low water."

Document is dated 2003 so who knows. Sounds like I am waiting either way.

That's the bridge, but I'm telling you there is not 20' clearance at MHW. I need 18' I can slip under (right down the middle) at half tide or less.

Going to the channel club Labor Day (4 days) with 4 boats so far. Should be fun for everyone.
 
Johnathan, how was the weekend at the CC? Did you make it in and out with giving you props a scrub on the bottom? It seems that the twin rivers are getting skinnier each and everyday.

Yes we made it down to CC. It was good, nice time. Sallee Tee's was great too,

I did manage to clean the props off with both sand and mud!!!

Anyone looking to go to the Channel Club, it's better to not take the directions that are offered on their website. That way is not a good idea for larger boats. I did hit the bottom, it was low tide, full moon. Rounding R28 I managed to skim the bottom with one prop even though I was lined up with the markers, sand there. Hit mud going into the privite channel by G31 and mud another time. Very skinny there. Even churned up mud at the fuel dock.

On the ride back I didn't notice any vibration so I'm hoping there was no damage. In 2 weekends I'll be on my mooring so I'll check the props then.
