Channel Club for me this weekend

OK JL,
What is your opinion on getting into the CC.
We are going in a few weeks. Since you were there, what's the best way to get in.

Still talking to Demillo's about the Ocean.
They said over the phone, they would accecpt a trade. I'll keep you posted.

Wayne,
When you go under the Sea Brite Bridge you follow that channel south on the port side of the river, instead of veering off to Starboard and following the direction on their website.

Email me if you want more details, I'm sure there are others here that can describe it better than I can.

Jonathan

Yikes! They told you to go on the West side of the island? No wonder you kissed the bottom. Jonathan, I passed you on the river the day you were coming in. We passed between the two bridges. (Silverton with satellite domes).

Jonathan I wish I had seen this thread earlier. We were there Thurs. after the 4th through the weekend. I usually travel into the Shrewsbury or Navesink at mid to high tide. Yes, I usually get caught at seabrite when the tide is roaring. We've seen boats larger than yours go to the east without any problem and while we only pull 3.5 the only scares I've had in the area are off or down stream of Barely point on the navesink.
Glad to hear there is no vibration.
If you looked off the fuel dock towards the east channel you see a couple of small islands that (only at high tide) you can rip between with a dink. I tried it at low tide heading for dinner last year and wound up putting a shine on the outboard's skeg. HA! We're glad I had the oars since I had to shove off and row a bit before we could get going again.

Dan,

I know that spot off Barley Point oh so well. Our home marina is just west of the Oceanic bridge. At dead low we have just few extra inches to float by; typically we are in neutral and hoping that the big diesel wheels don't find bottom. If the Navesink does not get dredge this winter all the boaters that draft over three feet are going to have big time problems!

Hey Ken,

I did see you go by me but didn't remember your boat's name. Sorry I didn't try to hail you.

Coming back down for Labor day. It's nice to get that Jersey shore feeling so close to home.

If it isn't there it's the dog leg in the channel in between Barley and Oceanic. That's the one that always gets to our depth sounder. It starts flashing and putting up bogus numbers there. We were in Barnacle Bill's for a burger with the dink. Great Burger! I should have had two (urp!).

Pattie and I have decided to go down on Friday instead of Saturday. What time are you planning on heading out?

Current table shows the best time to leave to be 6:50AM but that might be a bit early for some. Otherwise the tide and current will not be in our favor. (Dead low is 7:30ish) Leaving at 6:50 or earlier gives us a nice 1.6k ebb and we catch a decent flood current with rising tide down the Shrewsbury.

JL,
Great, so are we, along with many others from G dock. Friday, Sat, Sun home Monday for us.

John,
I would like to leave early, 5 am, 6 or whatever. Didn't look at tide yet, would like to run with the tide though.

Dan, (knocks on wood) but the S turn has never biy me; I guess it is because I take the racing line when space allows hitting the apex at the bouy. Our hailing port is rumson and I typically idle from the bridge to the junction of the shrewsbury which means that I just started the long ride to the tip of the hook. My track down the navesink is very unorthodx but I follow the water; foreign boats right or wrong typically will follow us through; as I am sure that they are saying if he can make it so can we. I am also typically the yahoo that let's other approaching big boats know how much water we have going over the bar if the do not look to be locals.

JL,
We have, Todd & Pattie, John & Pattie,
Roy & Amie, Bob & Joan Shaw, Bob & Tracy, and I think Bob (Slim) & Eilieen. Not sure about Ron & Lura Saint Dennis. All from G
7 boats so far.
