I haven't been on this board for a while, but I just noticed a posting from (Mike) mengel60. He mentioned the party we had at Tolchester a few years ago. I'm just wondering if there are still members of the Chesapeake Bay Cruisers Club on this board. That was a great party!!

PS.
Hi Mike!!

Hi Sandy,
I don't know of the club but I would be interested in more information.

Hi Sandy,

I'm just getting back here after a long absence myself. Had a great time at that party. Would be nice to do it again. Been a few changes since then. New wife, which turned out to be a good thing [B)], looking for a new boat, which should also be a good thing. Maybe the Chesapeake Bay Cruisers Club will be resurrected!!!!!!!!! [:-idea][:-party]

Hey Sandy, do you still have pictures of the party? I've also changed computers since then, and I don't have any of the pictures any more.

We started the club in 2002 I think. It started on this web forum and I posted a message asking if anyone from the Chesapeake area would be interested in meeting somewhere for a get together. The postings went on all winter, eventually we named our club the Chesapeake Bay Cruisers Club. We finally got together at Tolchester sometime in June of 02. We had 12 boats turn out.None had even met each other before that weekend. It turned out to be a great party. It was really nice to actually meet the people that you talk to on the forum.

Mike,
I'm not sure if I have pictures. I'll have to look. I know Trapper had lots of pictures cause he posted them on the internet. I wish I still had his email address. Maybe he'll find his way back to this site and post a message for us. It's good to here from you though. I hope everything is going good for you. Do you remember the shrimp Steve made for the first group at Tolchester on friday night?? Yum Yum!!
Do you still have your Avanti?

Maybe we could get another party started!! We still have our Four Winns(and still love it)

boater21222,
Where do you keep your boat? I reconize the zip code. We're on middle river at Eastern Yacht Club.

Sandy-
I was involved with the Tolchester get-together but the weather prevented me from attending with my 23' cuddy. As I remember, that weekend was blustry and the Bay had a big chop.

Since then we've had a number of successful BE raft-ups but I can't recall any planned marina parties.

BTW- Boater21222 keeps his beautiful Albin 28 on Frog Mortar Creek (Hi John!).

Hi arks1,
I do remember the weather was pretty bad on that friday. We left our slip and got to Tolchester before the Bay got too bad. The slips were under cover though, so it was fun listening to the rain and partying on the pier with the others that arrived on friday night. You missed some great steamed shrimp that night!!!

Sandy

OK, you guys are gonna plan a party and you know I can't be there!!! Shame on you!!!!

Sandy,
Unfortunately, I'm out of the Bay and out of a boat until next Fall.

Sandy,

Shenzhen Bay is about 30 minutes from where I'm sitting at this moment .... in Southeast China.

Hi Rob! Hi Sandy!

The raftup last summer was great. Looking forward to another this season. Although we visit Frog Mortar quite quite a bit we are on Salt Peter/Dundee, off the Gunpowder. We would be more than happy to host a raft-up. Or, anything the "club" is planning, Sharon and I will attend. Whether or not we bring our crazy neighbors (remember Rob?) is up to you. <smile>
They are a good bunch but they do get a little wild after 20 or so beers. Also having a full-size propane grill on a wooden boat makes me nervous.

Ok, I'm going to post a suggestion for a Chesapeake Bay Cruisers Club party and anyone that's interested can respond.
We could have the party at our club, Eastern Yacht Club.
PRO's
It's on Middle River, easy to find, fairly easy in and out
Dockage is cheap $15-20 per night per slip(not per ft) electric included
Nice showers, nice tiki bar, nice people, beautiful grounds, pets allowed(on leash)
Hubby and I also have an RV at the club so we can use that as a base for all of us to meet and eat. Hubby can grill ANYTHING. We'll supply the burgers and hot dogs. Also, we can have coolers at the Rv so you don't have to buy drinks at the bar if you don't want to(although drinks are cheap,$1.50 beer, $2.00-3.50 mixed drinks)
CON's
Sailboats may be a problem, the water is only 4-6ft on low tide and the entrance to the marina can be shallow on low tide 2-4 ft(someone put a bump out there)
We will have to know how many boats will be coming a few weeks ahead of time so I can let our dockmaster know and see how many slips will be available. They can usually get alot of boats in there for the 4th and for different affairs the club has so this shouldn't be a real problem.

So, that's my idea. Anyone interested???

Sandy

Sandy,Me and my wife agree sounds like a great idea, we are right across the river at Bowleys please keep us informed.

Hey Sandy,
I remember having a great time, including great food, at the party. I think another is in order. Maybe a similar party, or a raftup, or both for that matter. Don't have the Avanti any more. Went through a rough period a year or so after the party, and the finances wouldn't support it any more, but now life in general is much much much better, and currently looking for a new old boat. Carol and I have a 19 ft Larson cuddy, which we'll probably keep for now.... it's good for tubing and such, and probably give it to our daughter eventually. We're looking for something similar to the old Avanti. Got a 32 ft Wellcraft on the Bohemia we're looking at, as well as a 36 ft Searay up in NY. Don't know what we'll end up with, but gonna buy something bigger before the season starts. We'll be in Bohemia Vista Yacht Basin. Never been down to Middle River, but I'm up for the trip!

I'm in!
Name the date and we will be there. Your just around the corner from us.

I'd like to participate as well! How about proposing a few dates (maybe one spring, one summer, and one fall) and see who can come when, then go from there.

Sounds like a great time! The idea of resurrecting the former Chesapeake Bay Cruisers Club can be a topic of discussion - who's in favor?
