Hi guys, I've never posted in your forum before but figure you guys are the ones to ask. I have found a boat I may be interested in buying that is located at a marina on the Connecticut River if I am not mistaken. My marina is on the Delaware River in Philadelphia. Have any of you made this trip before. Looks like it would be a couple day trip at least. How are the conditions in your area and is it fairly simple travel or many trouble spots. Also, I'm presuming the river is freshwater, with surrounding areas being salt water? Any help is appreciated. Thanks a lot, Joe.

The river is fresh water. It is clearly marked with bouys, but if you have not been on the river before stay in the marked channel.Of course the bouys are not in as of this time and will not be until spring. The sound is also easy to navigate with a plotter and some charts for reference. Which Marina is selling the boat you are looking at? I keeo mine in Deep River which is just south of Chester. As far as making the trip I can not say that I have , but I could be fun. Good luck

Brian - Seaboard Marina is the one I am referring to. It looks like that is North of you. I'm assuming the sound is salt water? Anybody else have any input?

Seaboard is in Glastonbury. And yes the sound is salt water. I am not sure how well you know the guys at Seaboard, but fyi nothing good has come from there in some time. Make sure you have a real good surveyor.

That is the exact kind of info that I appreciate hearing. I was definitely going to have it surveyed. Thanks a lot.

Just out of curiosity which boat are you looking at. Its not the Bayliner388 is it?

Not sure if it is on their website or not. I seen it on Boats.com, dont have the link handy. It is a 2004 Maxum 2700 w/ radar arch. I've been on the lookout for one for a while, and apparently there are more in your area than mine (with radar arches).

Joe: I agree with what Vista said. Seaboard is a little behind the times in the way they handle sales. They have lost a valuable mechanic and struggle with repair work, launching, scheduling etc...Their "contract" for a boat that is under deposit is a mere "bill of sale" not completely filled out. I know first hand. They have been trying to sell my boat for 3 yrs. But, my boat has nothing to do with that Marina's skills, just as your potential Maxum was owned by somebody else who I am sure took care of it. You should stay focused on that, the boat. Seaboard is 4 miles from my house. Three yrs ago we bought a boat out of Skipjack Marina in Georgetown, MD. We also drove it home. We did it in 3 days, moving about 6 hrs per day at 20 knots. Your longest unprotected stretch is Cape May to NYC, other than that your inside the bay or Long Island sound. Ct river is all fresh water. Let me know if I can help in any way, pictures or other info.

I also heard that they have been known to use used parts from their "supply" to repair boats and charge for new ones. One of my dock mates slipped there and their son turned wrenches for them. Thats one of the things I have heard about them. The other that Ive seen is another guy on my dock bought a Silverton 312 from them that went back to them three times in just under a month. The last time it almost sank.

I'm based on the Connecticut River in Chester. Watch going in the early spring. There can be a lot of debris in the water. Have a paper chart and sounder on. Some of the day markers are hard to spot. There is a ledge in Middletown that eats outdrives. Stay in the channel. It is a beautiful run down the river. Will take a couple hours to the sound. I bought my boat in Atlantic City and ran it up to Chester, CT 30' Sea Ray. Great run. Stay at Weehawkin in NJ. It is directly accross from NYC and there is a cheap ferry that takes you over. Hells Gate is no problem for a power boat. You can make CT River to Atlantic City in two days but allow an extra day in case needed. You will be out in the big ocean around Sandy Hook NJ.

Ahhh the famous Mouse Island by Portland boat works? Is that the one you are refering too? I still do not know why they call it an island when it is always submerged.
