I have come so far in the time I owned and refitted my 1977 Chris Craft, that I am ready to work on the teak. I have the varnish removal and cleaning figured out and now I am up to how to treat the teak for best looks and durability. What do you guys recommend as a finish solution.
P.S. there is a lot of it.

Thanks,

Billy K.

If you want that beautiful mirror-like finish you'll need to varnish, varnish, and varnish some more. On the 1976 trawler I'm working on I went with Starbrite Tropical Teak Oil. It doesn't give that glossy look of varnish but it also only takes one coat to protect the teak.

Sikkens Cetol, unless you want to be doing it over and over again.

I use Armada wood finish (gloss). This year the whole boat got done but like GeeBee said we do it over and over. I barely get 2 years out of it and that is up north where the sun only hits it 6 months of the year. I It does look nice when it is fresh.

Good luck

My swim platform was covered with Cetol; it's ok if you like the dull brown look..

Cetol light or Cetol natural is ok on small surface like handrails and trim. For anything wider, it simply doesn't look good.

I have used Bristol in the past which gives varnish like result but much longer lasting and with the sanding between coats. Problem is that it is a two part product and it is very sensitive to heat during application.

I have also had good luck with West epoxy (with the 207 hardener) followed by a few coats of clear Awlgrip. Also mor time consuming to apply

These days I have switched the Awlwood. It came out 3 or 4 years ago, made by Awlgrip and is very easy to use being a one part product. You first apply he primer and the follow with the gloss. Again, no sanding between coats.

Varnish like look, less work, longer lasting.

I read a little on the Awlwood and it has the look I like. I have heard of the Bristol two part and it also looks nice. Previous owner used Cetol and I like a brighter look.
I would like to just use an oil, but I read it attracts dirt.
Thanks for the advise everybody, I have a lot to learn about caring for teak.

+2 Awlwood I got it when it first came out here, second season and all good. Exterior, gloss, I think they may have added a satin this year. I added non-skid to the swin platform and on the ladder treads for grip and it worked fine. Did some of the teak on the bridge this spring.
