I am in the middle of replacing my distributor cap and rotor on my 1988 5.7 mercruiser. Does any one have any suggestions on cleaning the corrosion and rust on the distributor shaft and distributor it self. I was told emery cloth with break cleaner or a non residue spray than put Vaseline on the shaft before replacing the rotor. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
