CO gas

"The boat did not have a carbon monoxide detector onboard."

Even a $19.95 model at Target could have saved their lives. Truly tragic.

Edit:
Good Lord. I just watched the news video. What were they doing running the genset at the marina? Heck, the temp that night wasn't even that hot.

I thought all late model cabin cruisers came with CO2 detectors. Our cheapo Seapro cuddy had one. What a shame.

CO2 (Carbon Dioxide)is the harmless byproduct of respiration (breathing), you need a CO (as in, Carbon Monoxide) detector.

CO2 can kill too, but it does it by smothering. Fires or people. CO goes aggressively after the 02 we need our bloodstream to absorb.
The ships that bring us our imported cars have enormous CO2 fire suppression systems and alarms that alert anybody in the cargo bay that it's about to go off.
