Hello All:
I'm completing the process of obtaining my license.
Part of the Application requires you to document your ownership of a vessel you declare as its owner/master. Proof of ownership is required

Question: How do you prove you own a vessel 15 years ago when the paper trail is long gone?

Since most of the sea time is in the past 5 years , 15 year old ownership is not that relevant.
Hopefully you still have a copy of the registration somewhere :)

I do have all of the Reg numbers, Is that technically proof of ownership?

If you know the numbers, you can maybe get copies of paperwork from the state...

TIP: when you send in your application and paperwork, keep copies of everything. They WILL lose something in the process.

Have you already applied for your TWIC?

It took some digging, but I was able to find ownership proof on all of the boats I have previously owned. Contacting the state/county registration office was successful in most cases. One exception was a mid western state that had switched all records to computer some years back and they had nothing on file previous to the changeover. Luckily, on that one I contacted the yacht club I had belonged to back then and they still had records!(even a photo) The Harbor Master sent an affidavit for me to submit with the application and the CG was fine with that. Additionally, if you know a currently licensed Captain that can vouch for your ownership of a vessel, that can also be used.
Good luck!

I thought it was all digital now? Working on my renewal now, five years ago when I renewed it was all digital.

In June, when I renewed, they lost both my physical and my First Aid/CPR certificate.
