I took my boat from SS3 up the canal to rutherig at low tide (probably not the smartest time but that is how it worked out). Also took my boat to Bergen Point at low tide and no issues, but agree there could be big stuff down there. I offered the SS3 to go on a skiff with my scuba gear on and have someone monitor a fish finder up and down the marina. If something pops up on screen, I go off and let them know what is down there and can even secure a line and marker to it for pickup later. Also told them we can bring a grappling hook, but that doesn't work well with dock boxes. Quite a few dock boxes from the anchorage wound up at ss3 on land and sunk in slips. Many have been pulled out - At least the ones that can be seen.

Guys on the hudson must be laughing at our dumpster concerns. They deal with huge floating and submerged logs all the time. On the Great South Bay there are very few ghongs to hit, besides sand!
quick story: When I took my boat to Florida i did not hit a sunfish, a dead whale carcass or container that fell off a ship. But i did manage to hit something very hard smack dab in the middle of a red and green buoy in the Florida intracostal. 2 weeks later with 2 new shafts and reconditioned props, i was on my way. The moral of my story: when it is your turn to hit something, you will. That is why we have insurance. Not saying it was fun limping 2 hours towards an unknown marina, although there are worse places to spend 2 weeks than the Camachee Marina in St. Augustine, Florida.
