Alright, I'm a bit confused. I'm thinking of repowering a 35' Luhrs, 20000#, semi-displacement hull, which currently has twin pleasurecraft 270 hp smallblocks in it. I found a pair of Volvo TAMD 41 diesel take outs, for a good price. These engines are rated at 200 hp each. I've been told my speed , (16-18 kt cruise), would decrease, but economy would increase. I realize I would be dropping 140 hp, But was told that the difference in torque would make it somewhat of a wash. But, another mechanic has told me that they will be too small (hp), and that I should be looking for around 300-350hp diesels. I've tried the calculator on this site, but, it tells me my speed would drop all the way down to11.3 kt, and that I only need 132 hp to do this.....Can anyone help explain what this all means? Am I reading the calculations correctly? Please help, Thanks Mark
