Hi, we've anchored out in the Connectiquot River a few times and slept on the hook, but we normally stay pretty far to the south, closer to the marinas there.
This weekend I'd like to head further up the river, closer to the park there, but I'm concerned about water depth. I know some people who live on the river, or in the canals, bring some decent sized boats up that far, and further, but I'm not sure if they know any tricks to keeping their props out of the mud.
Anyone have any suggestions or tips?
Thanks,
Keith

We have gone alittle past the snapper in. There are some big boats alittle further up by the college but I havent been brave enough to go up that far with the big boat. The whole damn river is only like 4'-5' deep. Its a great place

Stay towards the right bank when heading up river. It gets very shallow around the bend as the river turns more north/south if you're on the left.

Years ago when I had a 26' boat with an I/O I went all the way up the river. Even with that boat I had to hug the east side where the houses are with boats docked. If I strayed a little out I'd kick up mud and think I touched bottom a couple times. You have to have a very small/shallow boat to go into the middle of the river up by the park.

I had the same experiences as John with my 25' boat, also an I/O. I wouldn't even think of it with inboards.

I learned a lesson this year going down shallow canals! Won't do that again.
Even with a I/O you should realize that if you touch bottom and you have forward motion, even if not even in gear and there is a cinder block down there or solid wood pole, you will bend a blade!

be very, very, careful!

Also should be noted that I have seen anchors, especially the plow type drag in the river. I think the river is mostly a hard mud that breaks up in chunks and the danforths seem to dig in and hold the best, where the plows grab at first but then breaks free as mud breaks off in a large chunk!

As much as I'd love to anchor up the river, I think I'll play it safe and stay down by the snapper. Too much to risk. Besides we have the dinghy to explore up the river and the canals back in Oakdale...
Thanks everyone for the replies.
Enjoy your boats...
