Container Ships Collide

Well this might explain part of it: " that the German-flagged MV Colombo Express and the Singaporean-flagged MV Maersk Tanjong collided after one of the ships experienced rudder problems."

And if it happen when the ships were passing one another in the canal there wouldn't be a lot of room to maneuver I would think.
 
I can see the point Bill, but I would expect a security call immediately upon the realization that the rudder was out. Further, note the angle of incidence. One over taking? Something does not wash.
 
Here are the tracks for the two ships from MarineTraffic but it appears the collision must have happened more than a 24 hours ago...apparently thats how far back MT displays a ships track; or at least in this case. The track points for the two ships all read between 16 and 17 kts, no evidence a collision occurred in the past 24 hours. Perhaps one of the real Captains on BE might know of a different AIS site that has retained the tracks back to where the collision occurred.
