5. next in the Navigator area at the bottom left click on "Experiments" line which is the second line up from the bottom in the far right set of lines
6. then click "Full Speed Ahead" and have at it!

It's just like the real thing - the little boats are doing whatever they feel like doing. Made it once out of about 15 tries. Now it's getting easy - made it with over a minute to spare. You need to stay to the far left of the channel to miss the first little boat and then to the far right to miss the other little one.
