Cost of new vacuflush systems?

Yep Vic has it right I saw an ad in my ABYC members magazine really meant for boat builders. I think I even offered to purchase the head from the Raritan mens room, but Vic told me he could get me a new one within 2 weeks. It arrived less than 10 days later to my surprise. My wife has a medical condition that lets just say no head has been able to properly dispose of her golf balls. Here I go I know she will read this thread and give me he&l. The ME does it on 2 flushes, we had a visitor who didn't know better and flushed a tampon that went through on the 1st flush. This head gets heavy use. While we don't live aboard the boat it gets 3-5 days a week of heavy use from late March thru mid December. It has not had a clog yet. I had bought and installed a new VacuFlush the year prior to getting the ME. It got to the point my wife didn't want to use the head because it would always clog and I would end up having to clear it by boiling water letting it sit and even then sometimes having to use a snake to break up the solids caught in the discharge hose.
Now she uses the head with no fear of it clogging.

So I am basically sold on the Elegance myself. I have soaked a few to many denaros into my current Vacu-flush now and still can't find my air leak... So, my final question, the current head I have is mounted to the floor and the waste and fresh water feeds go out the back of it. Looks like the Elegance is set up the same way, but will it fit the same screw mounts to the floor? I know I don't have any access underneath the floor in the head and not sure how it is attached from the bottom side, but hoping I can use the same mounting screw holes to save some grief with the wife on drilling new holes in the teak flooring...

Craig, marine toilets are not like household toilets, where you can remove an American Standard and replace it with a Kohler, and everything will match, line up, and fit in place properly.

Marine toilets are basically sewage pumps. So depending on what type of pump is being used on the toilet in question (centrifugal, diaphragm, piston, vacuum pump, turbine pump, etc.) the manufacturer has to put the mounting tabs in whatever locations are available to give you a secure mounting, yet not interfere with the operation of the toilet itself.

So to make a long story short, the answer to your question is no. You won't even very often find two different models from the same manufacturer that have the same bolt mounting pattern, let alone one from another manufacturer. In fact, even the same model toilet from the same manufacturer may have a somewhat different mounting pattern, if enough time has elapsed from when the old one was manufactured, and the new one was manufactured.

Most marine toilets are attached to the decking via lag bolts or large wood screws. In the majority of the cases, it is not necessary to get beneath the floor decking to look for a nut or a bolt head.

The Marine "Elegance" mounts to the floor, and while it is set up for the connecting hoses to go straight down through the floor, it is easy to add a short length of hose and an elbow fitting, then route the hose straight back through the wall.

Hey Vic, from some of the pictures of the Elegance, I saw them going out the back instead of down through the floor, which is the way mine currently goes. I would have to get you a model number for comparison. Anyhow, from the diagram of the Elegance, the mounting bolts almost look like they would match up. Hoping that what you say about using large wood screws or lag bolts may be the case. that would certainly make it easier to tap new ones if need be. Thanks as always for the help!

Craig,

My Elegance didn't match up with the generic Jabsco head that came with the boat, but it wasn't a problem to mount the Elegance. I covered two of the existing bolts with the Elegance and put acorn nuts on the others to somewhat "hide" them until I feel like cutting them flush, drilling, and then filling in the gelcoat. This minor issue is overcome by the Elegance's performance. While I'm not sure about your boat, as Vic said, my boat had wood under the fiberglass where the head mounts so screws were all it took.

Craig, the "Elegance" is set up for the hoses to go straight down, through the deck. However, the fittings are located high enough that you can add a short length of hose and an elbow fitting, then route them straight back through the wall - no big deal there.

Thanks guys! I think what I will do this weekend is grab a template of the mounting instructions for the Elegance along with measurements and then compare up to what I currently have. That should give me an idea what will be expected. I think I may try taking one screw out of the base to see if I can figure out how it is held down. My hope is that it is just a wood screws or lag bolt like you said Vic. If something else, I am not sure how this will go then...

Also good to hear that it should be easy to route out the back on the Elegance. It will be much easier to route the waste hose that way. Going down, I would have to drill a new hole and still have the issue of not being able to get underneath that floor.

Thanks! Although I have a feeling this will be an all day adventure, but from what everyone has said about this unit, should be well worth it.
