My gimbal bearing is not giving me a problem, but I have owned this boat for 5 years and I don't know when the last time it was changed, so it is more of a preventative maintenance issue...
It is a Mercruiser Alpha One...I have been given a price of $150.00 for parts and labor...
Does this seem reasonable?...
The price came from a mechanic that I am hearing good reviews on as far as his work is concerned ...

WOW, way more than fair. I spen about $500 a few years ago having mine replaced.

I'm going to need your "good mechanic" to reinstall my o/d soon Wayne. Give me a call if you get a chance.

Rick

Work. Call later tonight and I'll get the details. No hurry, gotta wait for all this white crap to melt! Thnx. Wayne

$150 is cheap. Last time I had one done it was $350. I think the gimbal is about $60-$70.

I agree, considering you have to take the drive off to do it, part is about $40 if I remember correctly.

The gimbal gearing is one of those things that can get so stuck that it almost impossible to remove. For the cost of the bearing verses the cost of maybe pulling the engine, I would put the gimbal bearing in the routine replacement every 5 years.

LMAO......Probably cause you wanted to help.

You couldn't do it cheaper yourself is the way I look at it. Go ahead and have this guy do a complete outdrive service for you if his pricing stays as competitive and his work is quality.
