Let me say it this way. He took the ship near peril and then acts surprised when a helmsman is unable to react quickly. Uh.....wrong. It is assumed that a helmsman may not have time to interpret an order in a tight situation. That's exactly why you don't put the ship in such a situation unnecessarily and when you can't avoid such a situation, your ship is operated at a speed/circumstance such that the added risk is mitigated (such as with a Pilot).
Hell....even Rednecks understand this. That's why the phrase 'hold my beer and watch this' exists in the first place.
