Costa Concordia

It's probably going to float a while longer until it is lightened up?

I expected that they would want to get it into a dry dock ASAP

I'm not sure she will fit into a local drydock with the floatation sponsons on her sides. That's alot of beam to put between wing walls of a dry dock or a graving dock. Most docks that wide service big submersible or jack up drill rigs and I don't know if one is available in the Genoa area. It's all about cost control from here on out and it would be very costly to put the wreck on a dry dock just to cut it up. That's why ship wreckers operate in the third world and just run the vessels up on a beach. The wreck looks stable as is and will only get lighter as they cut her up. Look for the furnishings and decor that were not damaged to show up for sale on the internet. Port lights, windows, water tight doors ETC and other nautical fittings will be removed and sold. Be the first one on your dock to have window from the Costa Concordia.

Seems to be more expensive not to get it to someplace where it can be accessed from land.

Glad to see this is moving along with a plan. It's all very sad that some careless decisions for the sake of excitement enabled the disaster but it is good to know it is all being cleaned up.
