Lets say you are the new owner of a 5.7L Volvo marine engine and whilst changing the oil for the first time, you overfill it by 1.5-2.0 quarts. You come off plane, and lo-and-behold your low oil pressure alarm chirps - gauge says you have pressure- albeit low - you stop and check your oil, its full. It looked overfilled then but I figured the engine was just running and oil was sloshing around the dipstick. There was no noises associated with oil starvation and the engine temp was normal.
Well it was overfilled by at least 1.5 quarts. I drained and drove around for a while, went to idle and no more low oil pressure alarm, so Im positive it was from being overfilled.
Im spazzing out because I probably "foamed" the oil with the crankshaft. The oil is still very clean and Im figuring that since I corrected the overfill quickly there should be no damage. Like I said no noises (valve train noise, bottom end noise, etc) was present. So whats the verdict? Can overfilling the crankcase 1.5-2quarts cause bigtime grief or am I worrying again?
