They are still plugging away, but to date (day 23) have only made 862 NM (2383 -1851 direct minimum miles remaining )of the original 2383 mi directly toward their HI destination. So about 36% completed so far if they were somehow able to magically go directly there from now on.
They are on a much closer to direct track now than when nearer their starting position.

Sami's blog entry for 7/8 sounds like fingers in particular are really suffering ,

Definitely hope they make it OK, but it's still a looong way to Dryland. .
 
have now rowed 1403 miles
1326 to go in terms of the direct route. I'm thinking the rest of the way they will be able to hold pretty true to course
 
One of the 4-person teams is "only" 457 mi from HI and could arrive within 9 days. The abandoned solo rower's boat is drifting off Baja.

Psychologically, it must help a lot to know there are other rowers going through the same or similar experience concurrently.

The 1st of the 4-man teams has already made good their landing at Honolulu, with the 2nd place 4-man boat about 2+ days away from their finish. It's a truly amazing personal accomplishment .
I would like to see their 1st few hundred steps trying to compensate for the ferocious rocking of that dry stable land.

Team Fatchancerow of Sami and Meredith are still in 1st place for pairs , 5th overall , 648NM direct distance from Honolulu and mad a fairly incredible 70 nm /81 stat.. miles in 24 hrs on 7/21. They must have had nice favorable winds, seas, current and extra spinach for that record-for-them 1 day row.
 
I don't know, Les, your big wheel frame looks a little pink. Not pure pink, but it's sort of close.

Any truth to the rumor Meredith just remembered she left the stove on so they turned back this evening? [;D]

As skeptical as I was when the 8(?) rowboats set out from Monterey, CA, it's just incredible to me that 2 or 3 4 person teams have already made Honolulu , Sami & Meredith in Fatchancerow are in the home stretch to hopefully safely be the 1st 2 person and 1st mixed couple team to reach that destination in the next day or so, and so far only one boat ( the only single-man) dropped out and needed rescue assistance in very bad seas still "close" to the Monterey departure point.

So far, these incredible feats of personal endurance and triumph have been very, very impressive (to me) no matter what one might feel about the potential need for very risky, expensive rescue along the way. To be realistic, I believe the wx could have been a lot worse, but they have reported 25+' seas to with which to contend and there are still storms in the general area of the track.
 
That is amazing. I can't even imagine what that must feel like to know you've just rowed to Hawaii.

Other than to have very tired arms.
 
Bill- I expect they must have mixed feelings. Now they know just how long the row back is, except against current and prevailing winds.

Has Les "Wheeled" out of Maine yet?
 
One boat six miles from finishing. How bad would it be to need help and not finish after rowing all that distance. Second boat is 600 miles out, bad place to be with two storms coming.
 
The one six miles out will have a nice tailwind to push them in.

The other better get help asap.
