The latest Northeast Boating magazine lists Croton Beach as one of the top 5 beaches! It also lists Half Moon Bay as one of the best marinas.

They must have sent a lot of questionaires out to Hudson River boaters.

The Admiral and I were just talking about spending the weekend at Croton Beach.

We'll let you know if it's as great as they say it is! ;)

Too bad boaters aren't supposed to use the damn beach.............

I hear Belmar is much nicer!

Well the fuel is definitely cheaper!

You coming out this weekend or are you playing dock mary?

I'll bet you were third; just below Bonnett Shores but above Edgartown and if you viewed the entire list, you were WAY better than Yarmouth!!!!!

:D

Wow! Not trying to jink you or anything but for how long? :)

I think I remember a year or two ago that "Croton" was dead to someone here..........

we are hoping to be out on the hook this weekend.
Croton sounds like a nice spot, anything to watch out for getting in... Oh, wait that was Bowline... it's been a while

I was surprised to see those rankings for Half Moon Bay and Croton Beach as well. Maybe that's why Northeast Boating Magazine is planning a destination piece on Half Moon Bay Marina and the surrounding areas of Croton Bay, Croton Beach and Croton Point Park. If everything goes as planned, I will be hosting a writer and a photographer from Northeast Boating magazine on July 11th to show them around that area of the river. I will pick them up in Half Moon Bay Marina/Docominium and hopefully show them a very crowded Croton Bay loaded with anchored and rafted up boats enjoying the water and a warm summer day.

No one on the boating staff has a boat that they can go there with and check it out for themselves? No dollars available to pay for the travel and boating expense?
John, are they taking you to lunch at least? Are they all named Bob or something?

I am one of (probably) many who belong to Northeast Boating's "reader panel."
Earlier in the year they asked if any of us would consider hosting a writer and/or photographer if they decided to do an article about something in our area of the Hudson. I though it might be fun, so I volunteered. Obviously they already knew about the "reader's favorites" rankings which included Half Moon Bay Marina/Dockominium, Croton Bay, and Croton Beach, but it was a surprise for all of us. This is probably why they now want to do a destination piece of the area. I do not expect anything in return and I'll bet that they will be on the boat no more than an hour...or as long as it takes to get some shots of the boats in Croton Bay, before they'll want to head back home. We'll see how it turns out. For me, it's just a short hop across the bay and chances are that I'd be over there anyway if the weather is good.

Curious about Half Moon Bay being selecting as a top 5 marina. Nothing against it but what if any amenities do they offer? Seems rather bare bones.

Not only in the top 5...Number 1! Go figure. (A dockominium blitz vote?)

1. Half Moon Bay
2. Nantucket Boat Basin
3. Payne's Marina (Block Island)
4. Star Island Yacht Club/Marina (Montauk)
5. Champlin's Marina (Block Island)

Incredible that Half Moon was #1. Something is wrong with that tally.

How many people ever even heard of the place outside of Haverstraw/Stony Point people???

If you are a transient there, you can't use the pools on the weekends if I remember correctly.

Good luck finding the one guy if you need ice, what else is there to do there? Walk into town? For what? The train station? Is there barbeque area, playground for the kids???

Better not have a dog over 25 pounds, not allowed..........

Of all the other marinas up and down the coast.......how about Channel Club, Clinton, Essex Island, Matt-A-Mar in Mattituck, Brewers Sterling in Greenport, almost all other Brewers are better, Mystic.

I think the writer and photographer are in for a let down when they show up on the 11th.............
