crusader 454 won't crank

I've got a pair of 1990 Crusaders that were dropped into my boat last fall. Ran fine when I winterized, but now the starboard engine won't crank. Battery is good, 12.5 volts or so. My first thought was ignition switch, as the port switch went bad last fall - but I've got voltage at both sides when turning key to start position. I know the starter is ok, as the engine cranks, and starts, when I clip the remote starter button onto the connections at the solenoid. I'm not used to the GM style solenoid, mounted right onto the starter. As many of you know, I spent the last five years with a pair of Chrysler big blocks, and was intimately familiar with that setup, after spending more time in the engine room than I did at the helm. Is there anything on this solenoid I should check, or do I know it's ok, since I could crank it with the remote starter button?

Only other culprit I came up with is the neutral safety switch. How can I test if this is the problem?

Anything else I should be checking?

Any idea where I can find manuals for this engine setup? I had complete manuals for my Chryslers, with wiring diagrams, that came in very handy - and now I'm lost without any paperwork. I might have to get a boatered.com connection into the bilge.
