2006 boat with these motors, any input on these motors?
I also noticed it has mechanical shifters and throttles?
 
more precise model detail will help but in general they are high volume production motors with an excellent reputation, cheaper parts and lot of service available. .
 
Buddy has these in a 43 ,like ours, and they have been very good. Slightly under-powered for that boat, but reliable, and service is good.
 
Check out boatdiesel. They will answer all you questions about those motors.

I have the 450C's and love them. very simple, reliable diesels.
 
You will need full model designation to get much info. They came dressed from 200 to 470 HP.
 
They got 470 HP out of a 370??? I find that hard to believe. The 8.1's put out a max of 470 HP, these engines are much smaller.
 
We are also powered by 450's Sorry I don't know the weight, but would be pretty comfy with 370's in a 38. Our aft cabins have so much stern weight it is easy to squat at lower rpm's Our speed is about our tach speed. 2000 rpm-20 kts. etc. Our biggest problem is getting to the outside for service. They are also tall enough that you can't even tip a qt. of oil between the salon floor and eng. A 370, you can lay right across the top to get to the lateral side. Nice boat you are looking at, did I see an oil changer in the options?
 
When we were shopping for our current 42C, we toured one private seller's boat with Cummins B (inline 6-cyl, 5.9L, 370-hp) diesels... and he said he found them to be quite satisfactory. Speed figures he put forward seemed reasonable, if true. OTOH, I felt they wouldn't be optimal, so we purposely chose to shop for models with the Cummins C (inline 6-cyl, 8.3L, 450-hp) or the comparable Cat or Volvo diesels. I think our choice was reasonable, given that our boat isn't an actual speed demon even with the 450Cs.

That said, that 38 looks to be something like 7K pounds lighter, so less horsepower could be just fine.

FWIW, the B engines are dry-sleeved (Cs are wet-sleeved) so any future cylinder reboring and so forth (as from some kind of unusual wear problem) would likely have to be done with the engines out of the boat. It's likely easy enough to haul the engines out of that boat through hatches in the saloon and then out through the cockpit doors... so that's likely not a big deal. (I thought it might be, when we were shopping, but have since learned more about how engines come out of 42Cs., engine room hatches, etc.)

The Cummins 370B engine is a 6 Cylinder, 5.90 L, Turbocharged Aftercooled engine. The maximum rated HP is 355.
