Cutlass Bearing Replacement

I have been informed that my cutlass bearing is
just about shot and needs replacement.
Boat is a Mainship 390, single Cat diesel,
600 hours.

Does the shaft have to come out of the boat
to do this repair? I thought they had a tool
you could pound the bearing insert out of
the strut.
