Darn tide

Not the brightest captain to dock over a piling or leave the lines loose enough for that to happen. Stern to with the anchors out?
 
New update suggest it may have been en engine control failure and the captain figured it was better to hit a piling than a docked boat. That would explain the dropped anchor
 
If you hit a piling it bends, breaks, or whacks the side of the boat. It doesn't go up through the pulpit. There are no scratches in the hull leading up to the penetreation. The damage starts low and ends with the penetration. I don't buy the explanation.
 
Maybe the captain ran into it, and tried to back out of it. Dumb all around for getting into a predicament like that.
