Debris in the water

I stopped at the marina at lunchtime, there is more crap in the water now than there was after Irene passed thruough. Some HUGE tree trunks are out there. The water is still muddy. I presume that this week's rains will deposit more mud and debris. Please be extra careful if you go out, and travel slowly.

The Rondout creek has apparently crested at about 20 feet this time with less debris coming down and the Hudson seems to be carrying less as well. But it looks like the Mississippi! Someone's pumpkin patch took it hard because we saw many of them still going over the High Falls dam today.

Hopefully debris will lighten up by weekend. I'm still scheduled to travel to Roundout.

It's passable up here but the current is stout. If you are docking at the city dock I think you will be ok since it is outsite the main stream. If the creek is running and you are staying at the RYB I'll recommend the main dock on the outside. I just don't see it slowing down overnight.

Thanks for the advise. I'm staying at the town dock this time. I did check with them and they said thay have power and water. I know someone who is staying ate the Museum. Any word or advice on that?

The boat would be parallel to the current there and I would not expect it to be a difficult dock experience. I will say a recent visit to the museum was entertaining in that it seems they have made some good additions. I don't know if they will be able to get you out to the lighthouse but you never know.

Superboat races down in NY Harbor Saturday.

Might be a bunch of busted props when it is all over.

There is no debris in the river any more. It has all been captured by my marina as a public service to the rest of the boating community...

What is that torches? Wow that looks nasty. You'd have to tow the boat out before putting it in gear!

Yes, that is Torches. It has been like this now since at least Tuesday morning. I couldn't leave my dock even if I wanted to...

Is the marina planning on cleaning that out? I am sure that stuff is just trapped and can never get out on it's own. If that does not get moved you will have trouble moving the boat to get hauled..

Friday morning, the marina was still full of debris. I got down there Sunday afternoon and the debris was mostly gone, and they had built a boom to keep it from coming back, although it prevents most of the boats from getting out.

A lot of the boats that pulled out before Irene have not come back. Looks like the end of the season for a lot of us...

I have a friend with a sailboat moored at Nyack. He's not putting it back in. He's done.

This boat was not so lucky, we spotted it on the beach along side the Tilcon plant in Haverstraw.

We were however able to rescue a couple of Pumpkins

Unfortunately then we needed to be rescued by Seatow because we sucked something into the intake of our Jetski, Glad I always carry a radio and maintain Seatow, nice guy came right out and towed us in. Sorry no picture of this.

I guess that was you I saw SeaTow towing in...
