Hi everyone,

I am in need of a good mechanic near the kingston area. I would usually think about Roberti's Marine but they are so busy they cant look at my generator for weeks....

Anyone heard of Alex's Marine based in Newburgh? Are they good and reliable?

Thanks,
Mark

Patsy's bay marina is a service Center dealer for westerbeke, Onan, Kohler they took over the business of airgen and boatcomfort and their phone is 845 786 5270. as the same for Air Conditioning, Cruisair, Marinae Air and Marvair.

I have used Gentech in New Windsor. What's going on?

Thanks guys! Dan, I have an issue with a Quicksilver 7.5kw genny. It blew a belt and must have overspeeded somewhat and shut down. I was able to replace the belt and it restarted and ran, but with no/low voltage at panel. I had some knowledgeable people suggest i replace the circuit board, voltage regulator etc...one at a time... well, so far i did the circuit board and now it starts but wont run for more than 3 seconds before shutting down. i would put back the old board, but it wont solve my issues... i figure i would get a professional to look at it. The wife wants AC when we are on the hook! I dont want to use Jeff's since they dont have a great rep any longer... Roberti is super expensive and i am not sure he could do that anyway. he doesnt like working on older boats too much any more... :( hoping you have some reliable recommendations. god knows I need one right now.

Mark since you did some work on the genny is good. You installed a new Pc board can you read the Voltage AC on the genny? If you have low voltage or high voltage shuts down.Make sure the fuel pump works good. If shows low voltage check the level of oil on the governor is transmissiom Dexron II. the level is by the vent on the top.If the fuel pump fails will shut down because doesn't the rich the right speed you can remove from the filter on the carb. and pump to a can.Since you have removed replace the fuel fiter. You have a nissan engine on that gen. good luck

I'd swap the board back in and see if it runs reliably again. If so, perhaps a bad board was shipped to you. Either that or there is a loose connection to an alarm sensor that shuts it down.

You've checked all the CBs on the Genny I hope.

Dan, I think I will do that if i get a chance this weekend. The CB's ?? you mean circuit boards... if so, yes.

Boatcomfort... Thanks for responding too... I have the manual for this thing and yes, its a Nissan motor. Nice engine too. Quiet. Generac bought the parts and service though. Hard to get services when they break. Others have suggested that fuel pumps and boards are common failures. I have even heard of starter toggle switches going bad, governors too. I am not ruling out anything at this point. I did have low fluid in the governor and that has since been topped off and tested. It had caused the engine to rev up after the belt gave up the ghost last year. The ONLY thing I have replaced to date is that Control Circuit Board. I think I will have to put it back as Dan suggested. I just dont have all the time in the world to do the work right now otherwise I would delve deeper.

Any other recommendations on a trustworthy mechanic? I would appreciate it...

Circuit breakers Mark. Make sure all the switches are closed that should be. Maybe a trip button as well. They pop out if I am not mistaken.

Hahaha! Yes, I checked the CB's :) They are on the front panel of the genny and they do pop out. That was the first thing I check btw.
