Unable to search for this because I didn't renew my subscription while I was deployed. Appreciate any advice...
1996 24' Maxum SCR with 2003 reman 5.7 Merc (carbed). It overheated and I nursed her in. Mechanic pulled the heads, sent out to be milled? and reinstalled... new manifolds and risers... overheating solved... now she is very sluggish... struggles to get on plane... WOT was 4200 vice 4400 used to get...
Have GPS and integrated fuel flow... performance went from > 2 NMPG to 1.5-1.7..
Mechanic says WOT #'s in spec and not sure why fuel economy went down... He thinks it's the number of passengers I have but I always travel with similar loads and never had these kinds of performance issues...
Yesterday couldn't get 3800 at WOT and she feels even more sluggish... another symptom popped up... at 1000-1200 rpm the engine was surging... never seen that before... was worried she was going to quit...
This morning I am going to remove all extraneous weight from the boat and take her out with lightest load possible to satisfy myself that it is not the load... I'll take the mechanic out next week but would appreciate any ideas from this wealth of experience so I can assist my mechanic during the troubleshooting process...
