Delta Coves, Bethel Island

I agree that Delta Coves is a complete boondoggle! But, CC Times has it wrong about the drainage. Early in the construction, pumps were installed to move that water back into the slough. Too bad CC Times doesn't get all the facts straight prior to publishing their articles!

Just an observation, but if there hadn't been such strong opposition, this project would have been long finished and complete by now, without worries about it being left "half finished". It wasn't the developers who delayed this into poor financial times. Ye reap what ye sow....

This is true. On the other hand, if it had been built 20 yrs ago, the levees would not meet today's standards...... All in all, it was a bad idea back then or now.

I hope the county secures a claim against the builder's bond and gets money to hydroseed the levee. Sand blowing around and washing into the drains so it can clog pipes and grind the ejection pump impeller and seals until they fail is highly probable so the county should get maintenance money for the pumps from the builder's bond now too.
Does anyone know if the Delta Coves security and water truck are still on premise operating 24/7/365? If Lehman was paying for those trucks that operation could stop anytime too.

No, I don't know, DD.

I do know that Mar Lawry [mentioned in the article and currently on the BIMID Board] has had it in for the Delta Coves from the get go. I'm not surprised she is part of this push against the developer. Also her house is two lots away from the levy breach/inlet to the lagoon. She is really sick of all that dust!

I called the CoCo county building inspector mentioned in the article to express my concerns. He called me back and another guy just called me back too. I believe they will make sure the levee is seeded to stabilize the sand and the pumps are maintained. I couldn't stand to be quiet on this, if it were to flood due to lack of pump maintenance and sand abbrading the pump seals this would not be like Jones Tract, there are a lot of boats and vehicles here with gas and oil and southern Cal would not like that toxic stew pumped back into their water supply inlet to reclaim the island. Add to that the state doesn't have the money or credit to reclaim the island.

Nothing is happening, but folks on BI are very upset with the developers. There are grumblings of lawsuits, but I doubt that will come to fruition. They are caught in the world economic mess and will be a long time until anything improves.
