Depth gauge is off

I have a Standard Horizon DS150 depth gauge. It fluctuates by hundreds of feet and then becomes accurate for a while. Is this a dirty transducer or something else.

How/where is the transducer mounted? I have two transom-mount transducers on my cat (one on each hull). They get funky when they get a lot of growth on them.
 
It is below the water line about one foot down The other one works fine, in about the same position.

Mine does this sometimes because it is old and the external connector on the display gets a little corrosion. When it happens I clean it with a small screwdriver tip and it works fine again.
 
I would certainly go under and scrub ( Scotch-brite pad) the T/D after unplugging and reconnecting the T/D plug at the display a few times. If it is a T/M , make sure it is not kicked up.

Billy- Kindly let us know what if anything works if you try one thing at a time.
 
It you don't have a set of micro screwdrivers, an electrical tester with a sharp tip will work too.
 
Maybe you got crosswired with your altitude. Sometimes my altitude, which should be zero or sea level, will show 300' below sea level or 700' above sea level. has anyone else had this problem...Lowrance fishfinder and GPS.

Something else that may need attention is the keel off-set.
 
So here's whats up.
I programmed the unit in and out of simulator mode a couple of times.
I went under and cleaned the transducer (it just had a little slime).
I cleaned the transducer connection to the unit.

It is still doing the same thing. I have another standard Horizon unit in the lower helm (not exactly the same) and today I am going to swap them out and try to narrow the problem down.

You didn't try adjusting the Damping setting and Turbulence setting?
