Considering Chestertown for a weekend trip, just the wife and I. Looking in the guide books it appears that Marinas are but a few. Any comments on the local marinas and the possiblilty of anchoring in the River overnight and dinking into town. I am aware of a power cable across the river to be cautious about. Any Chestertown comments would be appreciated as we make our plans. Thanks, BigGrin

Not much in the way of Marina's in Chestertown. The one closest to town is pretty rustic and its a long way up the river to town. I suppose you could anchor out but I'm not that familiar with those waters so I can't recommend an anchorage in the area. There is a Town Dock that you can dink to but you cannot tie-up the Mothership there for any length of time. Its a quaint town and you can pretty much see it all in a few hours. You might want to get a slip on Kent Island and then do a day trip to Chestertown.

we did the trip a couple years ago and anchored out. I set out two anchors, both off the bow and we didn't move an inch. If it is breezy, you'll bump around a bit so if you need a steady boat to sleep, don't plan on sleeping much. We did fine. There is good room accross from town where you can get far enough out of the channel and feel confortable. The town is very nice, small but nice. We just stayed one night.

Big: I haver never gone further up past the bridge ( dingy ), however I read an article once in Chesp Mag or somewhere, that it is a neat place to investigate. By dingy, I think it was something like 5 mi. or so to explore. We anchored out from the town marina once with no problems, however we were there only one night. Langford Bay marina up the Chester would be another nice place.

Thanks for the comments guys. I booked a slip at the Chestertown Marina for the night. I'll report back about our trip. BigGrin

We made a day-trip there last month and grabbed a slip at the Chestertown Marina for the afternoon.

Nice little town and once you get to the main area there are clear maps to the various stores and restaurants. We had a great lunch at the Blue Heron Cafe.

The Chester is a pretty river to cruise ... just watch out for the crabpots especially where the river takes some tight turns.

Thanks for the input folks. The Admiral and I did the trip last weekend and loved it. Stayed one night at Chestertown Marina. Nice place, nothing fancy but right in town. They are remodeling the "Old Wharf Inn" and making a new restaraunt with a deck bar. Should be open by fathers day as they were working day and night. We stopped on the way home at Cacaway Island on Langford Creek, very nice anchorage as well. The Chester River is a Gem. Happy Cruising...BigGrin

Glad you enjoyed. It is a pretty town.

Yeah, The Old Wharf isn't being remodeled... more like rebuilt I think. It got pretty well wiped out by Isabelle.
