Dave glad to see our boats weathered the storm. The link should work now.

John,
Amen to that. I just wish none of this happened. Totaling the cost to rebuilt is mind bending.

Chris,
That sucks!!!, hope all is ok when the day is done. Good Luck

Chris, so sorry to see what happened. Looking at that train it doesnt appear to have its wheels on the track. Was it derailed???

All those boats were gone the next day in your photo? Were they all destroyed?

Sorry to see so many people with damaged boats.

Walshie - not sure yours floated away. Looks like a hobo was trying to board a train with it.

Boat is home safely! Mark Zoller from Zollers marine has balls of steel. More information and pics to follow, crazy day, have to run!

Ohana is home. Now it's time to assess damage.

Awesome!

Kudos to the team that made that happen. If you have photos that outline how it was done, I am thinking there are a mess of people that would like to see them so they can see how something can be done!

Chris,
I hope you took plenty of pictures before you moved her for insurance purpose. Just in case.

Wow.... That was incredible, getting the boat out of there. Glad its home, sorry its banged up, but hopefully not too bad.

Why? If anything, they rescued the boat from further damage due to its predicament!
The insurance company should be very happy with this result. Let's face it. If the RR company came in and moved it they may have had less respect for the boat than someone who worked with them all the time.

Dan, you are correct. I relayed the railroad company's message to my insurance company..."you have two days, if WE have to call an outside contractor, they will show up with mega equipment, tear her apart and charge you %50,000 while keeping the boat for collateral"

I took tons of pictures. It took FOUR hours and 10 men + crane to block her where the trailer could pick her. Then we had to do some road work to use the trailer to bring her home. Exhausting and amazing. I will post pics when I have a chance.

Thanks for the well wishes. Hope everyone is as fortunate as us!

Congrats on the recovery and good luck with the repairs!

Someone should remind the railroad we had a natural disaster, and that their very existence is subsidized by the taxpayers. We dwell on Amtrak a lot, but its the freight lines that have gotten a lot of money, not to mention free land, from US taxpayers in exchange for promises they didn't keep.

Good luck with that!!

Pete, it's apparent that you have never tried to deal with any of the RR's. Amtrak, Conrail, Metro-north etc, etc.

There are so many levels, and each "individual" that you speak with will explain to you what their relm of responsibility is, and that your issue falls outside of that relm.

If you look-up bureacracy in the dictionary, you will see a picture of the railroads.

Congrats, Chris on being pro-active and saving your boat from any further damage.

The point was to show you took a proactive approach and have proof in case the insurance company does not want to pay for any reason.

"Pete, it's apparent that you have never tried to deal with any of the RR's. Amtrak, Conrail, Metro-north etc, etc."

LOL I actually have, I'm good buddies with Amtrak's marketing folks in Rensselaer and I know some of the freight lines too, mostly upstate. And I used to deal with a few folks at Metro North also. I know what I said was just venting, the RRs are going to do what they will do and thats that. But it still sucks. In fairness to them, they are probably under a lot of pressure to get running again and having a boat in the way doesnt help, but they could have mustered resources to move Chris' boat just as tenderly as Zoller's did if they really wanted to. It would have been a much better gesture than telling Chris' insurer they were going to demolish it.

Regardless, the boat is safe, hopefully not too badly damaged. Kudos to Zoller's marine, and to Chris' insurance company for understanding the need to get something done quickly.

The railroad did need to gain access to the areas north of my boat, hence the pressure.

Storm was Monday night, found her Tuesday.

By Wednesday, noon, us members at CYC had the boat moved to the side and properly blocked. Zoller offered to grab it that day but railroad asked us to wait as police officer had to run to another emergency. The police officer had to escort us each time we were on the property. He could not have been any nicer!!! He was very understanding and concerned for me and my boat. He did want it gone ASAP as many people were trespassing to gawk at it. They are very safety conscientious and had a ton of equipment doing cleanup so you could understand his frustration with the paparazzi!!

Just another chapter in the book! Only the strong survive!!!

I wish everyone could be as lucky.
