Did everyone sell their Carver and switch forums?

floyd - very nice! I've thought about doing that to my mariner.

Regarding your TV replacement, we did the same thing - replaced the little 20" square TV with a 32" widescreen on a swivel mount, behind it is the PS3, DVDs, games, etc. and under it is the satellite box and then the radio/CD/iPod setup:

We did our tv the same way you did with the swivel mount. We kept the old vcr and the tv has a builtin dvd. Not PS3 though :(

Oh, Floyd is the Lab on the back bench :)

Wife named the boat after the dog, not me!

That's right - Floyd is the dog, I should've remembered that from previous/older posts...LOL...only have the PS3 because our DVD player went on the fritz...at least that's how I justified it!

Here's our boating (sometimes) dog, Samson, chilling on the bridge:

The Mariner is a great boat for Dogs and that looks like the bridge is a perfect fit for Samson, maybe even a little small for him!

Woohoo, yes indeed its been rather cold - our Mariner 3297 is up on the hard taking the nor'easter winds head on - tried to use a very large tarp with tie downs and so far its working but next year the shrink wrap will have to be the way to go - I've only had the "Dream Catcher" since July and to date its been mostly engine repair to get her back to factory specs - thanks to Rick down in FLA for some help and insight - this forum has been great so far!....thanks everyone!..I'd love to put in a fresh water flush system for the raw water right after the screens and most likely do the normal replacement of interior carpet, curtains and that long sliding curtin at the entrance - oh, also need to put in a sump pump to drain the AC condensation, rerun who knows how much wiring because it seems as if half of my electronics on the bridge work, oh lets see, put in a flat screen, run a CATV, replace nearly every deck light, put in some rod holders and maybe a radar Arch with someday the electronics that go with it.............can you say, I'm a pup just starting out!!!!....yes, I am and loving every freaking minute!...Have a great New Year...and to the Carver owner looking for someone near the Chesapeak Bay, I'm in Ocean City MD down at the end of the island by the inlet.....to Beautiful to describe.

Captain Budda;

I did the EXACT same thing ('cept my tv ain't as big as dat one :o) and use the area behind the tv for backup boat drink supplies. HOWEVER, I'm not too happy with the mount I used: takes up too much room and isn't as sea worthy as I'd like to see. THEREFORE, I was thinking of having a big ass cabinet door made (like the one right below there covering your electrical panel) that has at least 4 hinges on it and some sort of closure latch on it and a hole for the wiring and a more solid mount for the TV. What do you think?

marlin - that sounds like a pretty good idea. The mount we have is SOLID, I braced/beefed up the mounting area, drilled bolt holes, have big ole fender washers, etc...even in nasty conditions (water OVER the bridge canvas) the TV stays put and so does all the stuff behind it. I also added velcro where the sides of the TV "mate" up with the cabinet.

Buddha (sorry about the typo last time),
We think alike, man. One thing I have to do is tighten up the arm - it has friction adjustments and I also have the velcro (Industrial Strength). I just was a little unprepared one time and the tv went swinging while the admiral was in the salon - it wasn't really that rough. I also screwed in a couple of cup hooks (light tan ones as I have the maple) in close to the TV and when I'm going to be running I use a bungee. Nobody's going to be watching TV anyway.
I'll see if I can get a pic of the mount this weekend to see if you used the same style - maybe yours doesn't take up as much space???
Still, I think it would clean things up a bit to have the door come down to the bottom of the entertainment center opening. It would be over the radio and dvd opening and look more finished off.
This project is pretty far down on the list though as it doesn't have the priority other things have :o)

Nice pics and commentary, guys! Sorry I've been AWOL myself...

My boats are all high and dry and awaiting warmer temperatures and longer days. It wont be too long now,
a couple of months more and we can start getting ready for Spring!!!

Marlin - no worries!

The doors would look good, I bet. The TV mount really doesn't take up that much room, I've been very pleased with it so far.

Same here - got a new buffer and 3M pad system over Christmas, got new nibral props, gotta get to the boat yard and get to work one of these weekends.

I feel like I want to hibernate instead. It's been really dreary around Chicago. I'm looking forward to seeing that round shiney object in the sky some day. I think it was called "the sun"?

LOL yeah, for some of us its gonna be a long wait till we can unwrap the boats...

As for me, I'm busy with work and also helping Junior build his train set...

I went up the boat Friday and fired everything up and warmed the engines and ran the gen set and a/c's and wished it was warmer down here so I could haul her out and start the wax job and prop tuning

Unfortunatley, I did sell....had too...miss her terribly.....

I am right in the process of ripping out my old tv/vcr. Building a cabinet door to mount the flat screen with dvd on. Behind the door I am building a small bar with spaces for bottles & some hanging glasses.

Great Steve,

Pics Please!

One idea I had but never investigated was to see if I could find a mount that would swivel up (instead of solid mount or articulating out) and then, instead of trying to match the stain finish to match the other cabinets, laminate a chart of my local waters to the door and cover in polyurethane (or something). That way I could fold the TV up toward the ceiling to see the chart during conversation about "the where we ares" and "the where we're goings".

Mike

It seems the TV idea is the thing to do this winter. I just had a conversation with my home install guy about figuring something out for the boat. The admiral has agreed to new entertainment however we will likely use the existing space because she made me promise the TV would not be a "huge focal point" in the room (whatever that means). I never thought of using the extra storage as a selling point to her. I may have to rethink this. Mike do you have any pictures of yours as well?

I am also going to replace the DVD/VCR, original Kenwood head unit (my cd changer died and we want something more ipod friendly) and wood faceplate to accomodate the new units.
