Diesel Generator Question

My generator is smoking and smelling more than ever before. At the end of a couple hour trip I have soot on the transom. When anchored and running you see a sheen in the water like it is running rich.

Could be a bad injector with unburned fuel ... I would take an IR thermoter and shoot each cylinder to see is one is cooler. How doesn't it handle a full load?

It is handling a full load with no problem and it sounds normal.

Blown or broken injector tip is possiblecause. I would take the injectors to an injector pump shop for testing and rebuilding if necessary. Get some replacement washers while you are there. You can loosen each injector line to test that cylinder but since it handles load I would not bother.
