dinghy motor question

Just purchased a (new to me) 2011 Defender 300 Rigid Hull Inflatable (RIB) 9' 10". It's powered by a Mariner (1997) 8 hp motor. Ont the motor there is an adjustment for 3 settings numbered 1, 2, 3. Any idea what these are for? i'm assuming to control the angle of the motor.

We have the same motor and find 2 to be the best setting. Try all three and see what works best for you.

I was able to lift the engine when the tilt lock was in the lock position. Is that supposed to happen?
