Last year when we hiked Angel Island, I noticed a nice beach on the South/East side of the Island. There wasn't a footprint to be seen. The beach had a nice view of S.F. The trails didn't give this beach access.

I'm wondering if it's practical to take the Dinghy around the island to this beach?

Maybe in the fall when winds die down and the water is flat?

The west end of racoon straight can get fast and choppy with the tides. Same with the south point(point blunt). Better if you have good power with your dink.(and not a small dink).

Like Liz said, those beaches face the GG bridge and can get a blast thru the gate. They are great Halibut fishing spots when they're there.

Remember it is the wave action which create the beaches; nicer beaches have more wave action.

Thanks. Sounds like it would be better to save the dink for the protected areas.

OH! You said South EAST end. Yeah, That's protected! As long as you don't stick your nose around the corner. Remember what liz said about beaches, that area is subject to the wake of passerbys. It's not a short distance from Ayala cove.

Obviously Ayala Cove is the most protected area of Angel Island..........

All I wanted to do was to enjoy those remote beaches on the south side of the island, just east of Fort McDowell. They are untouched and have a nice view of SF. Hiking to them may be the only option....

If you decide to explore by dingy, take a handheld VHF with you "just in case".
