Any advice on which dingy davits would work best for a Mercury 270 airdeck on my my 04' 340 SD.
For loading/unloading & docking purposes I want to avoid taking up the whole platform if it can be avoided and would like removable hardware that you can't get injured on.
The Boatdavit.com system mentioned elsewhere looks good but also looks like it is perminantly fixed to the platform and what about getting around the lines holding it up?
The Weaver system looks good too and the brackets remove when the inflatable is in the water but is there a swim platform height issue when using them. My platform has got to be at least one foot or more off the water.

I just purchased a 1996 330 Sundancer and also been looking for a davit system for my Mercury 270 Airdeck. A number of members of my marina use the Weaver Snap Davit System and it seems to work well. You can purchase a quick mount kit, so the clips will be removable. It is easy to use and does holds the dingy fairly steady while you install the engine.

Good Luck....Paul

Paul,
Thanks for the feedback. I compleated the install of a Hurley davit system just last week and used it for the first time this past weekend.
It was easy to install and unlike the Weaver system I don't have to remove the engine when bringing the dink back on board (although its an effort by myself due to the 2 foot plateform height) and it doesn't block my view when backing into a slip. It looks alot better too.
Granted it cost alot more than the Weaver system but the conveniences out weight the cost for me.
I'd recommend it to anyone.

Steve,

Do you foresee any problems with stern-in docking and the Hurley system? It looks to me like the dinghy extends out past the swim platform and make get in the way of stern-in docking.

Don't back in as far.

I use one, stern in and it's really never been much of an issue.

Rob,

Like Rommer said don't go back as far.
I would like to mention, that since my swim platform is 2 feet off the water and with the davit adding another 4 inches or so, the dingy and davit clear the dock at my marina. Having it on for only one week I can't say if that is the case with other docks too.

We own a 330DA and plan to purchase a 10 foot inflatable with a 6 HP outboard this week. I would like to be able to leave the engine on the inflatable when lifting and securing it. Will the Weaver Snap Davit System and the Hurley allow me to do that?

Sea Wise makes a system similar to Weaver, but it has a crank-up winch that hooks on to the engine and has a transom plate that you attach the motor to. When you crank it up that plate pulls off the transom and leaves the motor in an upright position while the dink comes up perpendicular just like the Weaver. It's not cheap, but might do what you are trying to do. They're on the web. Check it out.
