dip stick

1978 mercruiser 260 hp 350. I had a dip stick that went to the botom of the oil pan it started leaking. I would like to put one in the side of the block but I dont see any way to get it past the exhaust manifold. Any sugestions?

thanks for the picture mine is on the port side where could buy it. I have been unable to find one is this a OEM part
 
any mercruiser dealer should be able to get it using those part numbers. as long as the block has the hole in it.some have a plug that can be removed once the oil pan is removed
