DirecTV vs. Cablevision

HI Walter

I think a couple other people answered your question about your neighbor's usage but that does not impact FiOS - it's a dedicated line to your house .. now the other "stuff" you have going on in your house is a factor - how many computers are going, voice as well as data and even whether you are wired in to your router versus wireless all have some impact.

I also see what you meant about dollar for dollar but I expect that to change. Once cable companies stop their "free" upgrades to higher bandwidth, the price will be more competitive. Of course, we are also discountiing TV pretty ehavily so it may balance out. I think it's going to come down to quality of the product and of service.

My current package of internet plus Premium TV is running about $105.00/month including 2 settop boxes - one of which is DVR enabled. This is roughly equivalent to the package I had with comcast at $125.00/month.

Walter, I don't know where you were during the blackout, but I was in NYC and nobody's cell phone worked.

does this mean it a home run from the house to the POP?

If not it will have the same issues as most of the cable installs

I was in NYC and my cell phone worked when the system wasn't busy...until the battery died.

It's a dedicated passive fiber-optic line from the central office to your house.

Beyond this, I'm going to have to take my on-line training course again :) I'm definitely not a techhie.
