Discovery Bay faces fine for wastewater violations

DISCOVERY BAY - The Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control board has fined the town of Discovery Bay $54,000 for wastewater effluent limit violations last year.

During 2008, the board found the town's wastewater in violation of limits for suspended solids and coliform - bacteria originating from the colon. Treated wastewater from Discovery Bay is discharged into the Delta.

The town must pay the fine by April 29 or take part in a hearing before the water board on June 11 or June 12 to consider whether to affirm, reject or modify the proposed fine.

Discovery Bay was fined by the board in December last year for violations stemming from a sewage spill last summer. Since the spill, the town has switched its wastewater treatment provider from Southwest Water Co. to Veolia Water.
 
That is not a big fine for a whole town dumping raw sewage into the environment.
That is only like fining 30 recreational boats for doing the same thing.
I would be willing to bet that there are more than 30 homes connected to that
system.
 
Yes there are. And many of those home owners have boats at their private docks too! You can just imagine....oh never mind.

I would be willing to bet that they will end up not paying any fines in the end.
 
Yeah, the spin-meister's there have already tried throwing the blame on the contractors in an attempt to avoid paying the fine.
 
I don't know Disco Bay well, but always thought it was the good place on the Delta - pretty sorry they get away with that kind of Sh!* (literally)

Hope they get their butts kicked, but it sounds like the good-old-boy system will let them slide -damn.

Just one example...

Back in the day, we used to be able to keep a boat and/or trailer in our driveway. It was that way for many years. Hey, it's a boating environment, right? LOL

Well, all of a sudden, all the residents with boats and/or trailers in their driveway got violation notices and threats of fines for having them there.

Gee... I wonder why???

Could it have been that the asphalt was barely dry at Hoffman's new storage facility?

Couldn't anyone have used the term grandfathered in if it was allowed for many years and never inforced how could they suddenly change their minds? A good attorney could have a case against them I would think.
 
I think the fine is insignificant too, but the real question is what are they going to do to fix the problem so it doesn't happen again.
