Do I need to remove the name/hailing port?

I purchased a 2001 Monterey 302 in November that's currently in dry storage. I titled the boat through the Game and Inland Fisheries. It has a name and hailing port on the stern.

Does that mean the boat was previously coast guard documented? Do I need to remove the name and hailing port before I start boasting in March?

If you have registration numbers on the bow, the boat was not documented. Most owners put a hailing port under the name to identify where they are from.

Like NC says (I can translate Coast Guard to English), if you got a title when you bought the boat, and had the boat re-titled in your name, then it's a titled boat and did not have USCG Documentation.

Of course you may rename the boat and update the hailing port - but you'll have to consult Poseidon . . .!

Involves pouring champagne into the water, several times. Many gods require appeasement.

Warnings not to be taken lightly. . . I sold my 32' twin diesel last year to a buyer who changed her name, navigated the Intracoastal waterway from NC towards her new Berth in MA and ran her into rocks off RI and sunk within min in 30' water. . . Get Poseidon's blessing for name change

Thanks, I kind of like the current name, but will bring lots of bottle for a renaming ceremony if/when.
